On April 20-21, The Oregon Indian Education Association will be holding it’s 2017 conference on the campus of Southern Oregon University. This exciting event seeks to incorporate Indigenous knowledge into public education and to promote quality educational services to Native students and their families. The conference theme is Radical Hope and Indigenous Futures: Native Knowledge Transforming Oregon Indian Education.
The OIEA believes that integrating Native culture and knowledge into public education and educational services will result in enhanced student outcomes for Native students. Additionally, the OIEA emphasizes that teaching Native histories and contemporary issues at every level of public education benefits all students, as they are encouraged to engage with the region in which they live, cultivate civic engagement practices, and learn to be responsible global citizens.
The conference will include a wide variety of oral presentation sessions, panel presentations, a film festival, luncheons and more. For more information, visit the conference website.
